1. What does the hiring process look like?


To be considered for a summer staff position, every applicant must complete an online application and a video interview. International staff may complete an application the Camp Harmon, however, they must complete their visa through an approved J-1 Visa sponsor agent.

2. What are the sleeping arrangements for the summer?


All Summer Staff reside in the cabins. Counselors will be in cabins with their campers. Program Staff, Kitchen Staff, and Custodial Staff will be in staff cabins. Cabins will remain open for Summer Staff to stay in during days off.

3. Am I required to work ALL sessions?


We strongly prefer a consistent team of staff all summer. Qualified applicants who commit to all sessions will be prioritized in the hiring process). Persons applying for partial summers must commit to 3 weeks and attending staff training (current ESCC staff are exempt). Late start hires are only considered after April 1st. 

4. Will my dietary needs be accommodated?


Yes! Our kitchen staff work hard to make sure that all staff and campers' dietary needs are met (including dairy, nuts, gluten, vegetarian and other restrictions). Camp is a nut and gluten conscience environment. 

5. What should I pack for the summer?


A full packing list along with many helpful tips and tricks will be sent in preparation for summer. Tip: You’ll want to pack clothing/shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty and bring ample bedding to keep warm at night. 

6. What does time off look like?


During the camp season, Summer Staff can expect to have time off between each session (usually a day and a half, refer to schedule). During the off days, you are free to leave camp and explore the nearby area. Santa Cruz Beach is 35 minutes away, and San Francisco is an hour away. There is A LOT to do and experience during time off.



7. What is a typical daily schedule at Camp?


A typical day with campers runs from 7am with wake up, breakfast, morning activity rotations (Arts & Crafts, Sports & Games, Farm & Garden, etc), lunch, cabin time/rest hour, afternoon activities (Pool, Arts & Crafts, etc), dinner, night activity, and lights out at 10pm. Scheduled break is provided during the day and after lights out.

8. What does staff training entail?


Topics include: general disability etiquette, campground rules, general health and safety practices, emergency procedures, personal care, lifts and transfers, back safety, camper rapport and communication, staff communications, and team-building (and more)!

9. Are cell phones, cameras and other devices allowed?


Cell phones and other electronic devices are allowed during break times only. 

10. Are tattoos and piercings allowed?


Piercings are allowed if they are not spikey or dangly. Family friendly tattoos are allowed, otherwise they need to be covered up. Safety first!

11. If I drive myself to Camp, can I park my car on-site during summer?


Yes, we have an area for staff to park their cars. During session arrival and departure days, staff will be asked to move cars to the nearby elementary school due to limited parking at camp. 

12. Are laundry facilities available for staff at camp?


Yes, the laundry room is available to staff during their time off and after 5pm during camp sessions. Staff are responsible for supplying their own laundry detergent.  

13. What are the campground rules?



  • Smoking is prohibited inside all buildings on the Camp Harmon campus. Smoking is permitted only in designated area. 
  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the grounds during summer season. 
  • No drugs or paraphernalia are allowed on the grounds, unless prescribed by a physician. All medications (prescribed and OTC) must be stored in the Health Center (aka PillBox) for safety.
  • No weapons or firearms allowed on camp property, even within locked private vehicles. 
  • Pets, emotional support, and companion animals are not permitted for seasonal staff due to communal living. Trained service animals are welcome, please inform director of needed accommodations needed and support provided. 
  • Food is not permitted in the cabins, storage for snacks will be available in staff lounge and dining hall. 
  • Staff must comply with all federal, state and county laws, rules or regulations while at Camp Harmon. 
  • Easterseals is not be responsible for any loss or damage to property or injury to any person as the result of the violation of any laws, rules or regulations by employees, campers or guests.  
  • Camp property boundaries are to be observed and right to privacy of our neighbors respected. Quiet time is from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Staff curfew is set by director 
  • Vehicles may only be parked in the designated parking lot. No parking in cabin or program areas. 
  • For safety and accountability purposes, all staff must sign in and out when leaving and returning to the premises (see daily attendance log during training). 
  • Other summer season rules may apply and will be reviewed during training.
